Monday (3/21/2007) night, the Platonic Touch Brewery/Laboratory executed its second round of bottling and its third round of brewing.  The Octoberfest and Irish Stout were bottled.  A German Altbeir (old beer) and red ale are now in the first stage of fermenting.  This means that there is 20 gallons of beer in varying stages in Zach and Nikki’s basement (Just for reference, a keg is 15.5 gallons of beer).

We planned to bottle/brew on Sunday but, didn’t get around to it (we were feeling a bit lazy).  Instead, we cleaned and removed the labels from 80-something beer bottles.  With so much effort put into cleaning the bottles I figured we needed our own label.  I put together the following image which can now be found on many of our newly bottled beers.

I have made my first tangible contribution to the open source world!

IPPI (IP Printer Installer) is a program to help users and administrators deal with installing IP based printers without a centralized print server.  It’s not revolutionary but, it has certainly saved a lot of time for me and my colleagues (read Tucker).  It is used regularly where I work now but, could still use a little polishing (especially the documentation).

Always a fan of the United States Constitution, when I saw The “Silent” Ninth Amendment Gives Americans Rights They Don’t Know They Have I was quite intrigued.   An interesting bit because I don’t recall my U.S. Government Class discussing much of the Ninth Amendment.  Amendment 9 to the Constitution reads:

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

The article makes the claim that this amendment gives the people a butt load of rights that aren’t explicitly listed.  From this, the author deduces that this “silent” amendment solves many of the right arguments that the SCOTUS faces (abortion, euthanasia, etc…).  I’m not sure that I’m going to make that claim but, I will admit that my current understanding of the constitution and position from which I argue doesn’t comprehend the impact of the Ninth Amendment.  I think I’ll start my research with the Wikipedia.

The New York Times Magazine looks at the effects of the Farm Bill on American diet and obesity. I have been a long time supporter of local farmers and organic foods. Additionally, I find it difficult to explain to many people why I make the effort to spend more money on less food (if you can call processed corn and soy food).

The article doesn’t lay out any magic solution to the issues of subsidized farming and the American diet/obesity epidemic but, I believe that it provides a starting point for addressing these problems.

Zome may describe all things (watch the video). Then again, it might not. Despite it’s usefulness for modeling the universe, it does look like a lot of fun. This is also the first time I believe that my mind was fully wrapped around the idea of geometric projections of the fourth dimension. It is really a mind expanding video and I highly recommend that you watch the whole thing.

This is a video in the Advanced Topics in Programing Languages Series from the collection of Google Tech Talk sessions.  Since I took a type  theory class last fall, I’ve had a hard on for the Haskell programming language.  This video does a good job of showing the power of Haskell and explaining the differences between ad-hoc and parametric polymorphism.

Over the years, I’ve registered several domain names. Globoco.net is one of these domains and is the Internet home for Globoco Networks. Globoco Networks is the holding company for all of my assets (none). Given the important nature of Globoco Networks, it is important for it to have a shiny web 2.0 logo.
